Olds, Alberta, began in 1890 as the sixth siding on the Calgary–Edmonton railway. Named after CPR traffic manager George Olds, the site saw its first resident, David Shannon, claim squatter's rights. The post office opened in 1892, and by 1894 the hamlet had about 100 residents.
It incorporated as a village in 1896 and became a town in 1905. Early growth centered on agriculture, with Olds College (founded 1913 as a demonstration farm) boosting education and farming innovation. Today, Olds remains a vibrant community in central Alberta's Calgary–Edmonton corridor, known for its agricultural roots and community spirit.
